Becoming a registered professional

Engineering activities support economic growth but has associated risks to the health and safety of people or the environment.  Because of these risks, any person who is doing engineering work has to be registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa to ensure that they are competent to take the responsibility.Competence is ensured by accrediting the engineering programmes of the universities as well as assessing each individual’s competence against standards required for professional registration in each category (after at least 3 years of post graduation workplace experience).Graduates gaining workplace experience can apply to register as candidates to ensure they received structured workplace experience.
Candidates with a minimum of 3 years experience, complying with all the registration requirements per category can apply for registration as a professional.
